好久不见!- My Dalian Adventure

I’m sorry this is so late in coming. I’m a slacker.

Of course since I did wait so long some details are hazy, but I have a shit-ton of photos, and everyone likes pictures.

The most annoying part is I was already halfway typing this god-forsaken post when I accidentally deleted it. curses.

So the bits that I will show you today pertain to my trip to Dalian which happened during the National Day (aka: Commie Day) holiday week where we had a full week (Approximately Oct 1-7) off of class.

I took this opportunity with my Polish and Ukrainian friends to visit the Southern neighbor to Ansha, Dalian. This is where my 干妈 (adopted mother) is from. 干妈 was a woman I worked with when I was at Han Dynasty (affectionately known as Handy Nasty).

Here are some fond memories from a few years ago 🙂

It was cool that I could see the city she’d often try telling me about. She would always say if I went there, she would host me. This time I went, she wasn’t there, but she did tell me to call her son. This was pretty cool that I could meet 山 (Shan), but I now call him 哥哥 (big brother).

I didn’t get photos and I’m mad now about it, but I will visit him again and get photos of him and his family.

But anywho… I and a bunch of other boarded the train from Anshan to Dalian… Romantic and Trendy City – Dalian as you can see below:

We stayed in this weird hostel that was situated 2 doors away from a dog meat restaurant.. but for it’s weirdness, it was clean enough and cheap.. only about 50元/day, less than 10 bucks.

The first thing we did around 11pm was eat and there was a non-dog meat place right near the hotel that did skewers and was also reasonably priced.

The first day was spent wandering around this one park that had carnival games, food, and best of all, BUNGEE JUMPING. (I will post photos from this and talk about it in a separate post)

Dalian is known for great seafood given it’s seaside location. It was not only fresh and delicious, but seafood is cheap!!

That tower in the distance was the goal. It was a bungee jumping tower and we were so fucking game.

While waiting in line we were a bit of a spectacle. I couldn’t take my phone so I didn’t get photos up there, but it was Jagoda, Gosia, Kacper, and I. If we jumped as a pair bungee rather than solo the wait would’ve been much faster so we opted for that.

The girls wanted to jump together as they are long time friends so while it was a tad weird to jump with Kacper, I didn’t mind much… it’s just that to jump you had to pretty much hug the other person. The walk out to the jumping platform was fucking surreal and I think I was so excited I was going to pass out.

I have to say, when the guy pushed us off, Kacper screamed more than me, so I was a bit pleased with myself. It was wild though.. similar rush as skydiving but a wholly different experience. We got photos, and I will let you see the awesomeness that they are.

[will get photos from Kacper]

Of course no trip would be complete without drunken night clubbing, so we first hit up JB’s Bar downtown after finding a few places that were meant for far richer people than ourselves.

JpegThe second day we decided to walk around a bit and found a Russian street.

Some of us didn’t stay and ended up enjoying the Dalian Aquarium for awhile, although not much made me sadder than the animals there. Typical zoo/aquarium problem.. not enough room for animals! Those photos are in the gallery below.

We walked some more and found a nice photo stop in some open and somewhat ritzy, modern, downtown area.

Distance and smog.. but the actually wasn’t too bad that day despite how it looks.

It was fancy enough to have an underground bathroom so that the ugly bathroom isn’t showing lolol.

As a whole, Dalian was an awesome city. I plan to go back sometime soooo tune in for the next post that I’ll put up before Sunday.. I went to Qian Shan but this time to actually hike. Wait until you see the photos!

再见,
